So far we've seen roughly 30 tickets on this issue. It looks fortunately like a fairly small number of people were negatively affected. But if you are in that group we want to help you!
------------------------------------------------
On Friday, October 1, Tripod experienced a serious editing problem for some members. From around 3:00 AM to 11:00 AM (Eastern), approximately 20% of users that edited a page using any of our tools - Trellix, Webon, FTP, FileManager, or Microsoft Frontpage - may have had the page they were editing deleted. This was due to a problem on Tripod's backend storage which has since been resolved.
The Tripod Team is currently working on a fix which will restore affected files to a version approximately a month old, August 24. This fix should be in place for affected customers within the next several days. So that we do not mistakenly overwrite new changes that you want, we will NOT restore any file which you make any changes to now. (But if you would like the old file to look at, you can leave a ticket with customer service and we will try and pull it for you.) There are a very small number of members that we may not be able to find an older version of the affected files for.
Some pages may be available using Google's (or another search engine's) cache feature. For example, to find a cached version of http://www.tripod.com, you can do a Google search for "cache:http://www.tripod.com". (just the web address with the letters "cache:" in front.) You may be able to use this method to retrieve some of your content yourself and allow your site to be restored more quickly.
We are currently in the process of upgrading the entire group of Tripod file storage servers to newer machines to avoid just such a problem as this. That work continues and is nearly complete. Murphy's Law would dictate that this outage occur on the very week we are about to upgrade.
We greatly apologize for any inconvenience this problem has caused.
